Crystal Palace in Séance

In the wake of the transfer, from Hyde Park, of the Crystal Palace,

Penge Place Estate was reallocated from Penge and Bromley

to the greater enfranchisement of all the crown’s suburban subjects

in the romance of its dinosaur statues and hedge maze,

and the proliferation of almshouses.

In the wake of the collapse, from fire, of the Crystal Palace,

its spirit transcended Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Southwark,

edging inwards from the mystically perceived metaborders

and thence skywards towards the tip of the BBC transmitter

where Victoria sits awakened in national lie.

This is the appeal of the ruins, and the vested interests

in never rebuilding that which bears best witness when it does so

in absentia.
